Street House is a large, detached dwelling of situated off The Street in Thursley. The property is Grade II listed and occupies a central position within the heart of Thursley village. The property dates from the Regency period with later additions and was once the home of Sir Edwin Lutyens’ family. It was during his time here that Lutyens developed his appreciation for local architecture and met Gertrude Jekyll, who later planted the gardens of so many of his houses. Our proposals included the demolition of an existing potting shed and oil store and the construction of a new single storey timber framed glazed building. The new extension was constructed with a brick plinth and a timber framed conservatory with a slate and glass roof, the brick and timber were painted to match the existing house and the proportions of the glazing bars are similar to windows on the house. A new opening was formed to link the new conservatory through to the main house where a new open plan kitchen was constructed.
